TikTok boss, Shou Zi Chew has agreed with the president of Kenya, William Ruto, that the popular app will monitor content disseminated in Kenya. It was also approved that TikTok would set up an office in Kenya, to be able to coordinate the operations of the app.

This decision comes after Kenyan members of parliament discussed a proposal to ban TikTok in the country, because of its sexual content and videos promoting violence and hate speech.

President Ruto stated that the agreements arrived at, would be a step to ensuring TikTok’s content to respect Kenyan guidelines and standards. Some African countries like Somalia have already banned the TikTok app in their country.
