How much did you eat this holiday?

Fufu and Eru, Ndole, Egusi soup, Edikang ikong, bobotie, Nkrakra, red red, Chicken Moambe, yassa, Domoda, Riz Senegalese, etc...How do you feel? Does the thought of haven eaten all this food during the festive season invokes a slight groan in your chest? Absolutely NO... but the thought of the additional, Christmas pie, cakes, puddings, sweets, cheese platter, whipped cream, glass after glass of champagne, wine, beer, juice and some extra junk is what really makes you want to kick yourself! Moreover, there's the near-constant grazing: platters of cookies at the office, bowls of nuts and chocolates at parties, a little of this, a handful of that....
With all the promises the New Year has for us, let’s not spoil it with toxics. LET’S DETOX.
Don’t worry if you don’t know what to do, we went on a search on how to have the perfect DETOX...We even got some great recipes for you! Please be aware that this might work differently for different people. Some may absorb it faster than the other, it all depends on your metabolism system and how fast your system works!

Our first solution is the WATER detox...but please drink in moderation. According to Kidney specialist Professor Graham MacGregor, People should drink when their body tells them to - when they get thirsty. He described how too much water could "overwhelm" the body's natural mechanisms for keeping levels in balance.
"The body already has a brilliant system for doing this, but if water levels in the blood rise too high, it just can't cope."

We looked around, and thought of the next best thing, SMOOTHIE! We started by picking an all time favourite Smoothie “GREEN”
Green smoothies are simply a fruit smoothie with fresh or powdered greens added. They are easy to make, exceptionally nutritious and one of the best ways to increase your greens intake significantly.
They also crowd out the desire to eat less nutritious foods. With the right mix of fruit and greens they can be sweet enough to satisfy sweet cravings and provide the real nutrition that your body is craving. Best of all, they are a simple and delicious way to clear out toxins!

Do you have the Right Blender?
All you need to make great green smoothies is a blender and access to fresh fruits and green vegetables (green powders can be a substitute when travelling or when fresh greens are unavailable).
You can use any blender that you already own or purchase. However, if you develop the healthy habit of making your smoothies daily and you want creamier and most nutritious smoothies, then Vita-Mix blender is highly recommended. But don’t let the lack of a great blender stop you from starting – simply use what you have or buy the best quality one that you can afford.

SMOOTHIE SECRETS
When it comes to making your own smoothies, the possibilities are endless, with ingredients ranging from berries to chocolate to veggies (yes, veggies!). Check out these expert tips to learn how to create tasty, healthy smoothies from the comfort of your home

USE FROZEN ORGANIC FRUIT

When it comes to fruit smoothies, it is highly recommended to use frozen fruit. This can be accomplished by freezing ripe fruit or getting bags of frozen organic berries and fruits.  Why frozen?  using frozen fruit eliminates the need for ice and makes your smoothies richer and tastier.
USE HEMP MILK AS A BASE

Searching for the perfect smoothie base? Give hemp milk a try! Hemp milk is an excellent base for smoothies, said. It's vegan, non-dairy, high in protein and essential fats, and makes smoothies extra creamy and tasty. Yogurt makes a great, creamy base for smoothies, too!

GREEN SMOOTHIE

The basic green smoothie recipe is:

2 cups filtered water
2 bananas
2 oranges
1 apple
1 lemon
1/2 inch chunk fresh ginger (optional)
½ - 1 head of romaine, spinach, chard, beet greens, or kale
Add the water. Then fill your blender halfway with fruit and the rest of the way with greens. Depending on the power of your blender, you may need to add slowly while blending. Blend for 1-2 minutes, or until very smooth.
Filtered water and organic fruit and greens are best – but again, do the best you can with what you have. Apples and berries are more important to select organic than are peeled citrus and bananas. Chop the fruit and ginger - a stronger blender can take larger chunks. The orange and lemon can be juiced or just peeled with seeds removed. Apples and ginger can be left unpeeled for extra nutrients.
