Nigeria’s top Afrobeat artists outnumber other African musicians in the released nomination list of the inaugural Trace Award.
The CEO of Trace West Africa, Sam Onyemelukwe has stated that the award is meant for Africans to be awarded by their own African brothers and sisters.

One of the objectives of the Trace Award is to showcase the quality and diversity of Africa’s Afro-centric music genres such as Afrobeat, zouk, amapiano, rumba, R&B, Rap, Gospel, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Afro-pop, Bongo Flava, Soukous, Mbalax, Coupe Decale, Kompa and Genge. Other African superstars nominated for the Trace Award are, Diamond Platnumz, Didi B, Ayra Star, Rema, Josey, Viviane Chidid, Tiwa Savage, K.O, Soraia Ramos, and Nadia Mukami.


The award is set to take place in Kigali Rwanda, on October 21, 2023, alongside the Trace festival. Superstars across Africa, America, Europe, and Asia will compete in 22 categories. Those who emerge victorious will take home unique Trace Award Trophies designed by famous Congolese Sculptor and designer, Dora Prevost.
