A healthy scalp leads to healthy hair ; but this is not often the case for a good number of people, especially women. Most women either have dry, flaky, red,sore or itchy scalps. Scalp sensitivity is scientifically known as “Trichodynia”, derived from Greek word, “Trichos” meaning hair and “often” meaning pain.
Most scalp problems are caused by exposure to pollution, extreme climates, the use of harsh hair products, diet, genetics or hormones.
To take care of your hair in order to have shiny, soft, long and comfortable hair, these hints can be a lifesaver.
1. Use Good Hair Care Products
This is one of the most important things to consider if you have a sensitive scalp. Using mild and gentle hair products can help minimize the sensitivity. Always go for products that lack potential irritants like essential oil, parabens, fragrances, colourants and sulphates.
2. Water Temperature
Always endeavor to use lukewarm water when washing your hair. If you use hot water, it can either burn your scalp or dry it out and render if flaky.
3. Styling
If you have a sensitive scalp, then you might need to watch out for blow-drying, as the hot air can cause dryness or even Injure the scalp. If you must blow-dry the your hair, let the dryer be far from your scalp or better still, develop a habit of air drying your hair.
4. Be Gentle
Alway gently brush,towel dry your hair or apply hydrating and soothing hair products. Being rough or hasty when doing these can be destructive to the scalp.
