Cameroonian born midfielder Carlos Baleba joined Brighton from Lille on a five-year deal worth 27 million euros. The 19-year-old, who made his Lille debut only a year ago has swiftly established himself.

According to Brighton boss De Zerbi, Carlos is a very talented footballer. He is a fairly young athlete, but he fits our style perfectly. He will be the  future of the club.

Baleba will take over for Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea for a British record £115 million.

Therefore, David Weir, Technical Director for Brighton stated that they are overjoyed to be able to bring Carlos to the club. He will have all the help he needs to make that shift and they can not wait to see him in action.

He is 19 and will need some time to adjust to his new surroundings, our culture and the language.

Baleba played for Lille in 19 league games last year and two this year before sitting the bench for Lille's 4-1 loss to Lorient last Sunday. He relocated to Lille in January 2022 and it took him 12 months before he started his first Ligue 1 game.

Baleba joins the Seagulls this summer alongside Bart Verbruggen, Joao Pedro, Mahmoud Dahoud, James Milner and Igor Julio.
