There are some health facts that play little or no importance to our well being than we thought, H20 is one of the most vital minerals to consume, but yet it is not consumed enough.

Being hydrated is crucial for health and well-being, but many people do not consume enough fluids each day.

Around 60% of the body is made up of water, and around 71%  of the planet’s surface is covered by water.

Water is the most important nutrient for the human body, It makes up 2/3 the human body. We need water to survive and to keep our bodies healthy. It is good for our health and digestion. It is important we drink water regularly. It is also essential for other functions of the body such as digestion, absorption of food, regulation of body temperature, blood circulation, carrying of nutrients and oxygen to the cells, and removal of toxins.

A lot of us underestimate the importance of drinking water daily and don’t truly appreciate what water does for our health.

SOME FACTS ABOUT WATER

  • Our blood is 90 percent water.
  • There is no universally agreed quantity of water that must be consumed daily.
  • Water is essential for the kidneys and other bodily functions.
  • When dehydrated, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and wrinkling.
  • Drinking water instead of soda can help with weight loss.

IMPORTANCE OF WATER INTAKE

It regulates your body temperature

Staying hydrated is crucial to maintaining your body temperature. Your body loses water through sweat during physical activity and in hot environments.

Your sweat keeps your body cool, but your body temperature will rise if you don’t replenish the water you lose. That’s because your body loses electrolytes and plasma when it’s dehydrated.

If you’re sweating more than usual, make sure you drink plenty of water.

It improves blood oxygen circulation

Water carries helpful nutrients and oxygen to your entire body. Reaching your daily water intake will improve your circulation and have a positive impact on your overall health.

It helps boost energy

Drinking water may activate your metabolism. A boost in metabolism has been associated with a positive impact on energy level.

A study found that drinking 500 milliliters of water boosted the metabolic rate by 30% in both men and women. These effects appeared to last over an hour.

It forms saliva and mucus

Saliva helps us digest our food and keeps the mouth, nose, and eyes moist. This prevents friction and damage. Drinking water also keeps the mouth clean. Water consumed instead of sweetened beverages can also reduce tooth decay.

It regulates body temperature

Water that is stored in the middle layers of the skin comes to the skin’s surface as sweat when the body heats up. As it evaporates, it cools the body.

Some scientists have suggested that when there is too little water in the body, heat storage increases and the individual is less able to tolerate heat strain.

Having a lot of water in the body may reduce physical strain if heat stress occurs during exercise. However, more research is needed into these effects.

Water Prevents You From Becoming Dehydrated

Your body loses fluids when you engage in vigorous exercise, sweat in high heat, or come down with a fever or contract an illness that causes vomiting or diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If you're losing fluids for any of these reasons, it's important to increase your fluid intake so that you can restore your body's natural hydration level. Your doctor may also recommend that you drink more fluids to help treat other health conditions, like bladder infections and urinary tract stones. If you're pregnant or nursing, you may want to consult with your physician about your fluid intake because your body will be using more fluids than usual, especially if you're breastfeeding.

Promotes weight loss

Drinking more water can actually help you lose weight. When your stomach senses that it is full, it sends signals to the brain to make you feel full. This reduces your hunger and makes you less likely to overeat.

Your body also requires water to be able to metabolize the carbohydrates stored fat in your body. With less water in your body, you are less able to burn off excess fat as your metabolism isn’t as efficient.

Maintain healthy skin

Your skin is an organ and is made up of cells. And just like other organs, without water, it will not function properly or at least, not at its best. When your skin is dehydrated, it will become dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less elasticity and is more prone to flaking. Staying hydrated can hence reduce the appearance of ageing, making you look younger and fresher.

Someone once said, to live a sick free life, water is the medicine. Some of the water required by the body is obtained through foods with a high water content, such as soups, tomatoes, oranges, but most come through drinking water and other beverages.

During everyday functioning, water is lost by the body, and this needs to be replaced. We notice that we lose water through activities such as sweating and urination, but water is lost even when breathing.

Drinking water, whether from the tap or a bottle, is the best source of fluid for the body.

Milk and juices are also good sources of fluid, but beverages containing alcohol and caffeine such as; soft drinks, coffee, and beer, are not ideal because they often contain empty calories. Drinking water instead of soda can help with weight loss. It was previously thought that caffeinated beverages had diuretic properties, meaning that they cause the body to release water. However, studies show that fluid loss because of caffeinated drinks is minimal.

There's no particular amount of water we need to consume, however, water needs to be consumed everyday, and at every time, for a healthy heart.
