Rebranding North West: Advocating Positive Communication for Economic Growth
At the North West Economic Forum, Vivian Kukah, country manager of FabAfriq Media Group, addressed the pressing need for rebranding the North West Region (NWR) of Cameroon. While the Anglophone Crisis has led to a largely negative narrative surrounding the region, Kukah emphasized the importance of highlighting the region's resilience and growth to foster economic development.
During her panel discussion on July 12, Kukah stated, "When we rebrand, we change how people see us. This change can lead to innovation and investment." She called attention to the various entrepreneurial projects, particularly those led by young women, that are driving progress in the region. "We need to highlight these development projects instead of focusing solely on the struggles, as this would seduce investors to come in," she added.
Kukah’s insights resonate with the mission of FabAfriq Media Group in supporting women reach their full potential in their various spheres of influence and contribute to economic development; and this is done through their flagship program, The Corporate Women in Leadership program. Kukah highlighted how these initiatives not only contribute to the economy but also enhance the region's appeal to potential investors.
"The way we tell our stories affects who wants to visit or invest in our region," Kukah noted. This underscores the power of storytelling in shaping perceptions and attracting investment.
As stakeholders in the NWR work towards economic recovery, it is essential to focus on promoting positive narratives. By showcasing the achievements and resilience of local communities, the region can create an inviting atmosphere for investment. Kukah stressed the need for communication strategies that highlight development goals, which can encourage investment from both local and diaspora communities.
Rebranding the North West Region through positive communication is crucial for its economic growth. By emphasizing resilience, innovation, and community achievements, the NWR can attract investment and foster sustainable development. FabAfriq Media Group stands ready to support this vision, shaping the future of communication and branding in Africa.
