Cameroon’s 2025 presidential election has officially ended with incumbent President Paul Biya declared the winner for an eighth term in office. The Constitutional Council announced the final results today, October 27, 2025 confirming Biya’s victory with 53% of the vote

His main challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, leader of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon, claimed he won about 60% of the vote and rejected the official results, alleging widespread electoral fraud.

Tchiroma, a former minister under Biya’s government, declared himself the winner shortly after voting ended on October 12, calling for greater transparency in the electoral process.

It should be worth noting that the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, which observed the election, reported several irregularities, including the relocation of polling stations and outdated voter registers.

President Biya, who first came to power in 1982, has now ruled Cameroon for 43 years. With this re-election, his new term is set to run until 2032, ruling Cameroon for 50 years.

Despite the declaration of results, calls for electoral reforms continue as Cameroonians look ahead to the next phase of the country’s political journey.
