Note should be taken that aside Nigeria, other African countries have made their mark and proven the resilience at competitive prowess of African teams, the likes of South Sudan. This was the first time for the South Sudan Basketball team to qualify for the Olympic games. Though they were sent back home, they did have a remarkable performance against basketball giants like USA.
D'Tigress of Nigeria put off a stiff resistance against the defending champions, team USA today as they battled to secure a spot at the semi finals. Unfortunately for team Nigeria, they were beaten by USA, 88-77. Nigeria started off by losing to team USA by 9 points at the end of the first half, but this increased to 19 by the end of the second half.
After their single win at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Nigeria waited another 20 years for this double win they recorded at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
