Lionesses Celebrate At Downing Street and Urge The UK To Do More For Women's Football

The Lionesses were welcomed home by enthusiastic supporters before attending a celebratory reception at Downing Street, following their victory in the UEFA Women's European Championship.

England successfully defended their title, defeating reigning world champions Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout during Sunday’s final in Basel, Switzerland.

After returning to England, the team travelled to Westminster, central London for a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock.

The team arrived shortly before 7 PM with St George’s flags. The national flag of England draped over windows and bunting adorning the railings.

England Head Coach Sarina Wiegman called on the UK Government to provide greater ''attention and access to football for all girls'', stating ''Steps have been taken, but we are not done yet. We must keep moving forward.''

The team’s aircraft, which bore the word ''home'' on its fuselage, landed at Southend Airport in South-East England on Monday afternoon, following nearly a month of competition in Switzerland.

On Tuesday, a homecoming open-top bus parade will take place in central London, with a procession along The Mall and a staged ceremony in front of Buckingham Palace to conclude the celebrations.
