Kenyan Athlete Ferdinand Omanyala Wins The Men's 100m Title In Birmingham 2022

On the new athletics track at the Alexander Stadium, Ferdinand Omanyala won the men's 100m at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games*.

On Wednesday (3 August), a raucous crowd cheered on the finalists in the penultimate event, with the Kenyan blasting out of the blocks to win comfortably in 10.02s.

South African Gold Coast 2018 champion Akani Simbine came in second, with Sri Lanka's Yupun Abeykoon rounding out the podium.

Due to visa issues, the African record holder arrived in Eugene at the eleventh hour and was thus unable to perform to his full potential.

Omanyala stated after his victory in Birmingham that he came here with the sole intention of winning gold, and that controlling the race from the start was crucial in the final.

Simbine showed humility and respect for his rival after relinquishing his Commonwealth title, and he stated that Ferdinand is a very fast runner for whom he has a lot of respect.
