Justice Mandisa Maya Becomes The First Female Chief Justice Of South Africa
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Mandisa Maya as first female chief justice of the country on Thursday, starting September 1.
The current deputy chief justice Maya will succeed Raymond Zondo, whose term expires on August 31.
Previously, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of South Africa Ronald Lamola stressed on Thursday that the government will continue to act within global institutions to preserve Palestinian rights and ensure that international law is applied fairly.
In his first public discussion of foreign policy since his appointment, Lamola highlighted the commitment of South Africa to protect the existence of Palestinian people.
He stated that South Africa will continue to do everything in its ability to ensure the existence of the Palestinian people as a whole.
Lamola vowed that South Africa would collaborate with global organisations to put an end to all forms of apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.
He emphasised the support of the country for Palestinian self-determination, citing the South African genocide case against Israel before the International Court of Justice.
