Infantino Opens FIFA-Funded Accommodation Centre in Lusaka
FIFA President Gianni Infantino made his first visit to Zambia on Thursday, launching the FIFA-funded Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Accommodation Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.
On Wednesday evening, Infantino paid his homage to the victims of the 1993 Gabon Air Disaster at the memorial site in Lusaka before visiting Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Elvis Nkandu from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and the Arts.
Zambia expressed gratitude to FIFA for its assistance with technical and infrastructure development during the visit.
President Hichilema emphasised the worldwide appeal of the sports and encouraged FIFA to implement business training for football players to help them manage their earnings after retirement or in the event of an injury. He also emphasised the importance of dialogue in settling football management problems.
FIFA and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct a FIFA Technical Centre in Zambia, aimed at improving football infrastructure and increasing capacity for coaches and administrators.
Infantino opened the $300,000 FIFA accommodation centre, which will reduce expenditures for the teams of junior and women.
The occasion highlights the growing relationship between FIFA and Zambia, guaranteeing a brighter future for Zambian football.
