Celebrating Excellence at African Energy Week
This year’s African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2024 Gala was a night of recognition and celebration, spotlighting the exceptional achievements of individuals and organisations that have significantly advanced Africa’s oil, gas, and energy landscape. Honouring 12 distinguished recipients across 10 categories, the event highlighted the dedication and innovation driving transformative change across the continent.
Lifetime Achievement Honorees included Benedict Oramah, President & Chairman of Afreximbank; Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization; and Nikki Martin, President & CEO of EnerGeo Alliance. Their work embodies a legacy of excellence and lasting impact on Africa’s energy development.
The Energy Person of the Year accolade was awarded to Meg O'Neill, CEO & Managing Director of Woodside Energy, acknowledging her strategic leadership in advancing the energy sector.
Other notable awards featured:
- ESG Leader of the Year: bp, for exemplary environmental, social, and governance practices.
- Service Provider of the Year: Africa Global Logistics, for exceptional service delivery.
- Deal of the Year: Oando Plc for its acquisition of Eni's Nigerian Agip Oil Company, marking a significant move in the industry.
- Local Content Champion: Perenco, for commitment to local workforce development.
- Reformer and Change Maker of the Year: Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, for driving impactful sector reforms.
- E&P Leader: Woodside Energy, for leadership in exploration and production.
- Gas Monetization Award: Jointly awarded to EG LNG and Perenco for innovation in natural gas utilization.
- Geoscience and Data Management Project of the Year: TGS/PGS, for their groundbreaking work in geoscience.
The ExxonMobil Africa STEM Challenge celebrated Angola as the winner, with Namibia and Mozambique taking second and third places, respectively—demonstrating the importance of fostering talent and education for future energy leaders.
