Prize Money Increase:

The prize money for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has seen significant boosts, rising from $4.5 million in 2019 to $5 million in 2021, and now a staggering $7 million for the 2024 winner. The runner-up will also enjoy $4 million, up from just $2.5 million in the previous years.

Launch of the African Football League:

Motsepe introduced the African Football League, a groundbreaking competition for the continent's top clubs, with a whopping $4 million for the winner. This initiative not only rewards clubs but also supports football development across all 54 member associations.

Support for Clubs:

For the first time ever, CAF is providing financial assistance to clubs in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and Confederation Cup, giving each club $50,000.  This is a game-changer for many teams striving for success.

Champions League Prize Boost:

Winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League now take home $4 million, a significant increase from $2.5 million in 2022.  Meanwhile, the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup winners will receive $2 million, up from $1.2 million.

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) has also seen a remarkable 75% increase in prize money, with the winner now set to receive $3.5 million.

Unprecedented Growth of AFCON:

The excitement surrounding AFCON has reached new levels, with the recent tournament in Ivory Coast garnering an astonishing 2 billion views. British data firm Opta even dubbed it "the most exciting AFCON ever"
