Bullying!!! Giving An Excuse For The Inexcusable

Bullying!!! A word that has so much resentment in it; a word filled with so much hate, a word that has taken the lives of so many. Bullying-related suicide has become a norm in our modern-day society with over 4400 deaths registered yearly according to research. While most downplay bullying as a part of childhood, it plays a big role in the psychology of a child and if they are not strong enough to withstand the constant torment, they try to escape it; they try to commit suicide.

Bullying in kids can lead to depression, low self-esteem, bad grades, and anxiety, these being the lesser effects. When the bullying gets aggressive, depression logs in, self-harm follows, and if they are not strong enough, suicide. Bullying is not just physical torture; it’s in the snide remarks and unnecessary comments; yes those mean things you say to your peers whether to intentionally or unintentionally hurt them are still bullying.

‘No man chooses evil because it is evil, he only mistakes it for happiness, the good he sees’ Mary Shery. The million-dollar question here is; what joy can you possibly get from bullying?. Why should you be bullied for being smart, being too skinny or not pretty enough, for being a different race like your insecurities don't haunt you enough? Cyberbullying is one of the most common types of bullying and sadly enough we can’t blame it all on kids. Cyberbullying is every negative post you share, every hurtful comment, text message, or email targeted at another person. Cyberbullying has ended many lives simply because people can’t keep their intrusive thoughts to themselves.

Bullies don’t fall from space; they are raised by parents who tolerate their tantrums, parents who make them feel like they’re better than others; kids who only copy what they are exposed to. They grow up and practice what they see; it starts off with little, with verbal abuse, snide remarks, and haughty eyes. It grows; gets violent and before you know it your kid is coming home with a black eye for simply existing.

There’s not a lot you can do to stop bullying as a victim because it’s a conscious decision on the bully’s part to make your life a living hell... You fight back, you get hurt, you take them up to the school administration, they bully you out of school, you change schools, and they hunt you in your dreams. The school administration and student body president should be in charge of ensuring everyone’s safety but sadly they either don’t care enough or are very oblivious to the things happening around them because every school has a bully, even kindergartens.

As an educational facility, it is your right to ensure students’ well-being while on campus. As a parent it is your job to mind your kids’ business; we both know that the black eye was not from karate lessons, check their socials they might despise you for it but it’s better to be safe than sorry. As a victim, open up to someone, anyone; talk to the school administration, and tell your parents, a problem shared is a problem half solved. And lastly, as a bully, you should know that life is already tedious on its own and everyone has their own problems, don't make it worse.
