Breaking: Ghana’s Naomi Ohene Oti Clinches 2025 Global Nursing Award for Revolutionary Cancer Work!

Ghanaian Nurse Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti has received the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award for her pioneering efforts in cancer care and nurse training.

The UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan delivered the award, which includes a $250,000 reward at a ceremony in Dubai.

The Nursing Director of the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra Ohene Oti  was chosen from 100 000 applicants from 199 countries. Her work has focused on reducing cancer care disparities in Ghana and throughout Africa, particularly through education and system reform.

The Oncology Nursing Sector in Ghana has grown significantly under the guidance of Ohene Oti. She was instrumental in launching training programs in partnership with the international organisations such as the Cross Cancer Institute of Canada.

Ohene Oti was also a member of the team that created Ghana's postgraduate cancer nursing curriculum in 2015, which has since taught over 60 oncology nurse specialists and ten breast care nurses.

The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, created by Aster DM Healthcare in 2021 intends to recognise the efforts of nurses in areas such as leadership, research, innovation and community involvement.
