Cameroon's journey to the round of 16 has been a roller coaster of emotions for football lovers and fans of the Indomitable Lions, especially with yesterday's encounter against the Scorpions of Gambia which ended in a 3:2 score in favor of Cameroon.

Gambia had dominated the first-half exchanges despite being 80 places below their much-vaunted opponents in the FIFA rankings. The Indomitable Lions had a slow start and had Fabrice ONDOA and Nouhou TOLO to thank for keeping them level at halftime.

In the second half, Toko Ekambi 's glancing header fired the Lions, giving Cameroon the lead as supporters beamed with delight.

Unfortunately it did not take long for Gambia to equalize. Ablie Jallow was left unmarked to slot in the equaliser. Gambia took the lead for the first time as Ebrima Colley gave the Gambia an 85th minute goal raising the score to 2:1 againts the Indomitable Lions.

Interestingly, the Lions kept roaring louder. Cameroon had not said a final word. Miraculously for Cameroon, James Gomez's own-goal, a Gambian player drew Cameroon level, before Christopher Wooh's spearing header sealed a 3-2 win in added time; and that's how Cameroon which had been in danger of an early exit, clinched its place as second in Group C after the Teranga Lions of Senegal.

Cameroon will play against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their round of 16 match,on Saturday January 27th 2024.
